I... um... how... how this happened ?? i'm spechless, they ruined the best part of naruto vs. pain... can't believe what i'm seeing.. the animation is horrible, ugly, stinks, sucks, i don't even have a word to describe this insult.. i waited so long for this fight and they ruined it.. really man i'm even starting to hate the naruto anime because of this... there are some parts that pain's face change, no offense but he look like an asian..

Yo "ThE ArChAnG3l", you say "no offense but he look like an asian..". What language do they speak? Where is this show made? Who is it made by? Do you see English words anywhere at all aside from the subtitles? Do you see any semblance of English or any language other than Japanese? Besides, the Animation for this show has been crap. It's only when they change animators during big, super action-y fights, is when the animation actually isn't crap. It's fast & fluid. Not like what they usually do which looks utterly lazy compared to other shows that have even more action PER EPISODE than this show. This show has become so much talk talk talk talk talk and less action than Pre-Shippuden. I guess they're running out of Akatsuki members to kill off.

i know what you are trying to say but really dude, pain's face changed quite ugly and the animation is quite pretty different... sorry i said pretty i should mean ugly different.. and believe me at least i'm pretty dissapointed.. i know who the creators are, what language they speak and how they look like, but admit the animation is ugly

Why are people complaining about the animation in this episode? I think it's quite artistic and better animated than Bleach(There are too many flashy backgrounds and everyone uses flash step which is nothing more than scribbled lines.) I also believe that the person commenting about how Pain 'looks asian' is quite racist. If you don't like the animation then go ahead and stop watching; no one cares about your opinion. I however, am impressed with this episode.

Agree with 32 and 34. What do you guys expect about Pain's face changing? None of us would look 'pretty' all the time while fighting. The action in this episode is intense, fast, and actually made me root for Pain!

I actually thing it's good,the expressions were good, pain,wtf?,omg!,hate,NOW YOU ARE DEAD....Perfect expressions for this fight...He fights with the Nine Tail Beast ,not with the Konohamaru...And still he couldn't beat it ...About the effects and the ideas of fighting,they were fucking damn good...The effects of the nine tail Rising ,tail after tail!!! :) ...The running pain,the style he fights,run and hit!!!!! All was perfect!!!

Cool down with the racism thingi. I'm sure the guy didint mean in in that way.

However, regardless of whatever artistic value this episode may feel like to others, guys, the motion based fast scenes, body shapes and "editing" was super crap. I've been watching all anime since 2002, and this animation is the worst fucking thing I ever saw. At cost of injecting adreneline in this episode, they have fucked it. At certain fillers, you can expect such screwed up quality, but NOT AT THIS VERY IMPORTANT SCENE.

God damn the person who animated this. Poeple in Japan must complain about this outrageous peice of shit. I had a big sneaking fear when they didnt reveal too many preview scenes from the last episode; now I know why. When these guys get too busy, they come up with tripe anal picturisation like this. I am a Naruto fan, and I am pissed off.

Well, seeing to as they added tons of extra stuff that wasn't included in the Manga to make the battle more epic, I suppose I can side with all the water spewing from everywhere. But they've always had great fight animations before, and I liked that style better. I'm not a big fan of this new style of shading and animations they did for this episode, but I must admit that it is very fluid and I would love seeing it in a different anime. It's just that they suddenly changed animations for this episode that really annoys me. And the color shading...

So.....is it just me, or was there a whole lot added to this fight between the Ninetails and Pein? I don't remember half of these fight simulations in the manga. I mean....it's fine. I actually like the added fight scenes, but I just want to make sure I'm not crazy and forgetting parts of the manga.

it's an interesting animation experiment, but i don't think it fits the Naruto universe. Naruto is a story where the fights are cool because the COMBAT and STRATEGY and SKILLS are cool. it isn't like other shows where the fighting is so simple and dumb that they have to use flashy effects just so people don't get bored. in Naruto, using the flashy effects takes away from the natural awesomeness of the fights, in my opinion

my guess is the developers want to be cheap and are trying to find ways to not draw complete animations, and so they are trying this animation style that uses less frames but uses flashy animation in order to hide the fact that it is less frames

don't be cheap you cheap ass cheapsters. we want good solid Naruto animation

The animation sucked for this episode, there are no texture in anything other than some of the backgrounds they made before( like the hokage stone faces, and the forest). everybody's face was changing.
I don't know if this is a new style or something, but it's horrible.(it kind of reminds me of the animations in the shippuden movies, although this suck much more).

I agree the animation isn't on point. I did expect so much more. But I'm a true Naruto fan and commend Kishi for creating such a manga/anime that's got me HOOOKED for nearly a decade. My attention to this are never this long. =)

Anyway ~ I'm on a natural high from this episode. EPIC for me!!! BTW - I love Minato (4th Hokage)...My favorite moment is when the Kyuubi says "You're" - @ 20:35 and the 4th shifts over to cover the Kyuubi from the Line of Sight from Naruto! (Like punk..stfu) haha! love it!

I'm divided over this episode. I'm not a huge fan of fighting scenes. I lean more toward character development. So the parts where the Six Tails is fighting Pain seemed pretty excessive and sometimes defied believability for me. In addition, these sorts of fight scenes always have noticeable flaws. However, I thought the entire scene in Naruto's mind was very well done, and to me Minato's entrance is one of the most breathtaking moments in the entire anime.

The problem with the animation is the weird one dimensional graphics and weak looking stripes. The character's outer linings constantly morph, which makes them change shapes. Those rocks did not have any attention to detail, they were just black lines, filled with the same type of brown and a shadow here and there.

I am not a supporter of this horrible kind of animation which has been used in shippuuden for some time now. However, it must be said that I do understand the WHY behind these types of animation. The studios want to make it look fast-paced and action packed, which is impossible to do if you want to color and draw everything as detailed as possible.

Good example of this is (in my version of the 480 avi) at around 2:30 where the rocks look horribly childlike as if i'd drawn them. Naruto/Kyubi is throwing the rocks around for a minute in reckless abandon, meanwhile, at 2:37, Pain is standing between two humongous rocks that were drawn in extensive detail which looked like the art that we're used to.

unfortunately, this action type of animation looks like shit, but we have to admit that it's better than the excuse that Dragonball Z used to use: They are moving so fast that we cannot see them with the naked eye, ergo the mini explosions that you are now seeing across your tv screen.

A lot of the scenes just did not fit with the characters' established personalities and powers. I thought Pain could only use Bansho Tenin and Shinra Tensei for a short moment with a five second interval. Yet, I don't believe there was a single moment where Pain needed to recover his power. He just took repeated blows in immediate succession without even blinking. Not to mention all those shouts and expressions from the supposedly impassive Pain. I believe the only moment in the manga where he screamed like that occurred when Pain's final body was destroyed by the rasengan.

The Kyuubi's powers also seemed to lean more toward powers that only occur in a filler or movie only. Or a power was used in excess. With the exception of the single great chakra blast which the kyuubi needs concentration for, none of the attacks were supported by canon. I mean, lasers and beams, come on. And why was the Kyuubi practically breathing fire. There is not a single instance in where the manga even hints that the Kyuubi uses fire. Only the Nibi and the Yonbi so far have demonstrated any fire style attacks..

Well said Danny. It takes time to create an episode, about 4-6 weeks at a steady pace to create a half hour of animation. Most American and Japanese animation is done in Korea. If you don't believe me check out the credits at the end of this episode at 21:54. "Dr.Movie" is a Korean animation studio. To create a decent that looks as detailed and fluid as the intro of the Pain vs. Leaf village story arc would probably take 2 months or more which would have meant a longer Six Tails filler story arc and lot of angry fans. Remember how everyone felt about the Three tails/Yukimaru filler arc that seemed like it would last forever? You can't have it both ways guys.

what was the water for? It isn't like pain needed it to do a water jutsu?, also, can kiuby control water now? all the water followed kiuby when he was chasing pain.

New powers from kiuby = laser beams, fire breath, blood that turns into fire.

Pain new abilities = -doing shinra tensei as if he were throwing candies,
-able to deflect kiuby's laser beams with his bare hands (he wasn't doing shinra tensei dunno why since he could do it ezpz before),
-ability to mutate his face (he needed a 5 second interval to do this since he did it every 5 seconds),
-ability to put his eyes out of their place (5 seconds interval)

Even changing the animation style is somewhat acceptable. But when they go change the way abilities work and make up random moves etc, then they go overboard and should take a close look at what the heck they are doing.

This was the worst animation I have ever seen in an anime series. The filler episodes have better animation than this. I wish they would have sued this animation on a filler episode rather than wasting it on a VERY important one.

I know they wanted to make the episode feel really epic, but the Naruto Vs. Sasuke fight had the original animation and it's still one of the best in the series. Watching of the beginning of this episode made me come back here to make sure i downloaded the right one.

If this is a permanent change I don't think I'll watch anymore. I'm sure others feel the same way.

Im all for getting the arcs completed without alot of filler but y not do this sh*t animation for some other episodes. there has to be a middle ground to this where u can speed the action up like they want but not make it look like a 5 yr with downs drew it. (sorry if that offended anyone) i mean come on when naruto was fighting all the pains that was normal drawing, and there was plenty of fast moving in it. and now to hold the next episode two weeks, we better be getting a double episode. Not happy with the animation dept. if u want to draw like this call disney. if it aint broke dont fix it.

I can't say if this chapter is or not art. But it's clear that it has raccord failures respect the chapter 166. First, Naruto's back is with all the chackra rows intact. And Hinata has turned back. His legs now are where his head was in the before chapter, and now she looks toward Naruto.

It was about time the animators were freed from those strict forms and passed to a more freestyle elastic design. Their evolvement from the previous common realistic style to a more free minimalistic and adaptive design reminds one of Miro, Klee, Picasso and the superior Cycladic Arts style.

man, in this episode deva pain showed a lot of ability and power against 6 tails, even after we clearly saw that nagato had no more stamina to fight due to shinra tensei and even while fighting hinata he splitted blood

man, if deva pain had fought naruto sage mode alone witouht the help of the other pains and nagato focusing in just deva pain, deva pain would have beaten naruto sage mode in no time

That episode looked like it was made from the 80's. Like something out of he-man or transformers g1. Even though im not sure if I agree with the animation style for this episode, I thought the story was still good and judging by the next episode things look normal again. Will always be a loyal follower of Naruto but still though, the animation in a fight that should of been an epic was hard to watch.

Also on the comments on Pains face, it changed a hell of a lot. His face is always emotionless in episodes before this and also the Manga.

Lets just hope that the next one/two where the real fighting takes place will be better.

I also dont like the way they had to fill the episode with all that water shit and rock movements...

Guys when i download the epi and start watching it i tell "they must be kidding" , this is some kind of joke. Anyway i watch until the end. Forget about the realy bad animation the real problem in this epi is that the people who did this epi havent seen naruto before. And i tell this because of:
1) Pain shinra bansh have cooldown (...) 5 or more seconds
2) You dont make pain run like speedrunner (...)
3) You dont make kyubi( i dont remember how is writing) a laser machine gun or a fire fox that he throw fires from his mouth and his blood is also fire
4)If u remember in 160+ episodes naruto take out of the battle the fat pain who can absorb any jutsu, yes but here kyubi hit with a f*cking stone deva pain to his head (OMG when i saw that scene i didnt know what to do cry or laugh) and he does not take any damage
5) Pain cant throw two or more shinras to cut things
6) Why and how all this water appear from stones , there isnt any kind of jutsu or somethink , did even pain need it for somethink nop, the only reason why the water was usefull was to surf on it with kyubi
7) When 6 tail kyubi attack pain he use shinra inside the water creating something like sphere and kyubi apears from something like window to the water while u can see that the water is moving
8) And you cant get straight to the ground with the head and nothing happens no damage ( this is the second time as i tell to 4)
9) You dont make deva pain scream or yell at anyjutsu + pose a new style that he hadnt before, he was unemotional after all he is a dead body who dont feel pain.

Thats i this is the most importand things that make this episode sucks realy.
And somethink last ANIMATION sucks there is no way some1 gone like ,i realy want to know what they see, "ok nice we did a realy grate job making terrain (konoha) a gigant pool that dont even hokages heads apear or making konoha a see for no reason...."

P.S. Keep the good job and be sure that "a lot of people" will continue to watch the Anime.

I wish somebody had told me how bad this ep. could be before i saw it. Something like:

Take the blue pill, where "the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe", or to take the red pill, where "you stay in wonderland, and see how deep the rabbithole goes."

i dont care what anyone says this episode was shit, they TRIED to make it up by using fast fight scenes but no, the powerlevels and abilities of both characters were fucked up, the quality of animation is about the same shit a group of nursery children learning could recreate using mircofucking soft paint!!!! excuse my french but i love naruto so much this really hurts :( and it pisses me off to have to force myself to watch this bumfluff every single week in the slim hope kishimoto would slap the noodles out of the animation team and get em to make the naruto everybody knows and loves. AAAARGH i could scream all night about it but unless the people in japan complain and get something done nothings gonna change :/ they dnt give a shit wht we think because its not out here yet. im surprised they havnt shut down the series!!! so much i could say but its pointless, so all of you people who like these episodes just because u LIKED naruto at the begining, wake the fuck up and open ur eyes, this isnt the naruto you first got addicted to, this is shit, give up on it for now and read the manga... tho il be back and hoping next week -___- jheez this is worse than having a nagging wife...

After the first 2 minutes I had to pause and make sure I was watching Naruto...this deviated soo much from the Manga, and NOT in a good way. It reminded me of an old school disney film with the over exaggerated expressions on the character's faces.

Absolutely horrible...This is the first time in years that I've ever wanted an episode to just end...

The Orochimaru/9 tailed Naruto battle should have been the template for these scenes-this was a complete 180 from what Naruto really is and I absolutely hated it.

They need to REMAKE this episode!

EPIC !! Really been waiting for and ep. like this since the kakashi vs pain part. This is the best yet for this arc. For those who think that Pain's drawing is ugly, it is actually purposely made like that to show the excruciating pain suffered by Pain. That's why, we only see on the very intense part. I really don't mind when they change the fight scene from the manga as long they made it better and bigger. Thumbs up !!

This episode was pretty entertaining, sure they were a bit creative with the art style and it wasn't normal naruto. But it was stil more interesting than normal naruto. The last few episodes were boring and drawn out. Though the pain fight is pretty awesome so why not draw out the action scenes.
